Our work / Case study

A special-order system for ShoeLab.

When a customer at ShoeLab needs a shoe the store does not have on the shelf, staff take a special order. We built the form they fill out and the console that follows each order to pickup.

What we built
Special-order form and manager console

Every order, one list.

Special orders are easy to lose track of: the right brand, size and width, who took the order, and where it stands now.

The goal was a form fast enough to fill out at the counter, and one list the manager can trust.

What we built.

  • Quick to fill out

Brand, size and width lists fill in as staff type, with a way to enter anything not on the list.

  • Numbered orders

Every order gets its own number, starting at 1001, so staff and customers can refer to it.

  • Customers kept by phone number

Returning customers are found by phone number, so their details are not typed twice.

  • A manager console

Every order tracked from request to pickup, with full editing for the manager.

  • A read-only staff view

Staff can check an order’s status without being able to change it.

  • A record of every change

Edits are logged with what changed, so there is always a history.

Where it stands.

The system is live.

Brands and staff names that are typed in rather than picked are flagged, so the manager can add them to the lists in one click.
